A beautiful detached holiday home in a peaceful village in South - West France

Over the course of seven years, we have transformed an old run down cottage into a bright, spacious place to be. With three fantastic bedrooms, two bathrooms (one en-suite) and a large dining kitchen and comfortable lounge, La Maison d'Hêtre can sleep up to seven people. With a large dining table under our giant pergola, there is plenty of seating for everyone to enjoy outdoor meals any time of the day or night. We also have a separate 'Gin Area'  where adults can 'relax' with an aperitif whilst the children enjoy our huge above ground saltwater pool.

ï»żAmenities

We have a large fully fitted kitchen with oak worktops and separate island. The kitchen has a granite sink,  ceramic hob, separate double oven and freestanding fridge freezer with water dispenser. We have a fitted dishwasher, microwave, toaster and boiling hot water tap. We also have a large oak dining table with comfortable seating for 8 people. In 'coffee corner' we have a filter coffee machine.

Our bright, comfortable lounge has two large sofas making an inviting place to relax or watch TV. We have superfast fibre broadband so multiple internet users can browse the web. We have a great selection of books for young readers and adults alike. We also have a collection of board games and jigsaws.

Our spacious master bedroom houses a king-sized bed with wardrobe, dresser-drawers and bedside cabinets in a matching walnut style. The en-suite has a large shower cubicle with powerful shower and it features the exposed original roof beams as does the bedroom itself.

The 'middle' bedroom has a large double bed and a single bed. It also has drawers and a tall clothes hanging unit.

The family bathroom is a mirror image of the master bedroom's en-suite. Large shower, toilet and sink unit created from an antique sewing machine treadle-table.

'Bedroom 1' (the first one to be completed during our renovations) has a king-sized bed with bedside cabinets, wardrobe and chest of drawers in matching white. Again, the original roof beams are a stunning feature in this room.

Our above ground saltwater pool is over 7 metres long and 3.6 metres wide with a constant depth of approximately 1.2 metres. It has composite decking around the sides and large gentle steps for access to the pool. When not in use at night, the pool and steps have inbuilt lights which look stunning!

Outside, our large front garden is home to several fruit trees, including pear, nectarine and cherry. The metal pergola gives shade from the sunshine for comfortable dining at the huge table with room for all diners to be seated under cover with the pleated movable shade available if the sun gets too hot!

In a corner to the side of the house is what we call the 'Gin Area.' This has a very comfy table and chairs to relax whilst enjoying a nice cool drink...

To the rear of the house is a lawned area with beautiful apple tree and parking for up to 4 cars.

What to do!?

If you are wanting to explore the local area, here are a few suggestions!

Visit a 'plan d'eau'

Plans d'eau are lakes, ponds and sometimes beaches where the public can visit to swim, have picnics, fish or just enjoy the countryside. There are several of these within a short drive of la Maison d'Hêtre.

Visit Vallee des singes.

Vallee des singes is a top tourist attraction only 30km away. The unique wildlife park dedicated to primates was founded in 1998. It is a place of amusement and knowledge, promoting ecological awareness. Since its creation, the main objective of the park is to contribute in protection of nature, environment and primates. La Vallée des Singes offers its visitors a unique experience through a full immersion into the fascinating world of primates. This wildlife park is 100% different; there are no cages, no fences but 450 monkeys freely living on a wide area of 22 hectares. Here, visitors are the ones who have the privilege to enter the monkeys’ territory. You have the possibility to observe the little monkeys only a few steps away from you, as well as the great apes on their island.

Visit a historic town or chateau.

France is known for its historic towns and Chateax. We even have a chateau of our own just a few metres away but unfortunately its not open to the public! Choose fromPoitiers, Angoulême, St-Jean-d'Angély, Chauvigny and Parthenay.

The nearest Chateaux open to the public are Chateau Javarzy, Château de Dampierre-sur-Boutonne and Château de Saveille.

Visit Futuroscope.

Futuroscope, or Parc du Futuroscope is a French theme park based upon multimedia, cinematographic, and audiovisual techniques. It has several 3D cinemas and a few 4D cinemas along with other attractions and shows, some of which are the only examples in the world.
